Carefully selecting packaging which suits the properties of the product is one of the most important focus areas for company management. Our technical service is constantly on hand throughout the day in order to allow all packaging processes to run as efficiently as possible, so that high-quality packaging can be produced.

Through the years, Compaxo has amassed a great deal of information and practical knowledge in relation to everything to do with optimum preservation (shelf life) and presentation. No wonder then that Compaxo has a wide range of packaging in circulation. As well as packaging a number of its products under its own label, Compaxo is also a major player in the branch in terms of producing meat products under the client's label. A considerable amount of the processing, packaging and distribution of Compaxo's meat products takes place under this private label. The collaboration with the clients which is necessary for this includes everything from design to finished packaging format. With the aid of our suppliers, there is an almost unlimited choice in terms of design and print when it comes to purchase under private label. The employees in our sales department can advise you in this and help you with orders. Generally, our products are thermoforming packed via one of the following packaging techniques:

Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP): products in this type of packaging are packaged under protective atmosphere by means of a natural preserving gas, which has a bacteria-inhibiting effect, and ensures that the products are presented more nicely in terms of color. This protective atmosphere is not unhealthy. The gases which are injected are all gases which naturally occur in the atmosphere, and are simply added in a composition with different proportions. MAP’s greatest added value is that it has a high presentation value. The upper film is pulled tight over the bottom layer of the packaging, allowing more space for printing or labeling, and the visual aspects of the packaging will not deform as quickly. This increases the communication potential of the packaging. Finally, when opening MAP which has been used to package sliced meat products, the slices are more easily removed from one another than in the case of vacuum-packaging.

Vacuum-packaging: this is a packaging method based on more traditional principles. This type of packaging envelopes the product more tightly than MAP. There is no air between the product and the packaging. This makes it less likely that the upper film might accidentally be pierced. Furthermore, this type of packaging transports comparatively less 'air' along with it, which makes it more efficient in terms of transport and storage. Logistically, it therefore has an environmentally-friendly effect. Some products can even be pasteurized in the packaging, in order to increase the shelf life.

Products are packaged in a vacuum or with reduced oxygen, using a special thermoforming machine. Once the products have been packed in this way, their shelf life will be longer as long as the packaging remains unopened. We can deliver a wide range of products packaged in this way at fixed weights. By means of our thermoforming machines, the 'base pans' are formed from a film which has been placed on the machine in a roll. The shapes which can be made can be discussed.

We place another roll of film on the packaging machine, which in practice will form the top of the packaging: the upper film. This will not be deformed, but simply plays the role of creating a barrier by being joined with the deformed bottom film, so that the product sitting in between these layers is hermetically sealed from the outside air. The possibilities in terms of the upper film are quite extensive in terms of presentation value, on account of viewing windows being able to be printed on part of or the entire film in accordance with the wishes and designs of the client. There is also possibly the option of offering packaging with a euro lock (hanging eye on the top of the packaging). This is suited for products which can be hung up in the shop, which happens often with dried sausages. Ask our sales department for options and advice for good presentation of your product by means of packaging. In addition, we also offer other external presentation options on your packaging, such as upper and lower labeling. In most cases, we offer the option of adding a 'peel function' to your thermoformed packaging. This offers added value for the consumer by being able to easily open the packaging from one of the corners. Furthermore, there is the possibility of delivering products in resealable thermoformed packaging. This packaging is provided with a kind of adhesive edge, which allows the consumer to easily reseal the package after opening.

We also offer the thermoformed MAP in bulk format. This is ideal for clients who benefit from larger batches, and who want to process our products to consumer-sized portions. Examples are chorizo snacks and smoked sausage in bulk format.

Another variant of the standard thermoformed packaging is the double compartment thermoformed packaging. This packaging is characterized by its convenience, as it allows the consumer to better ration use of the product: they then only have to use half of the product, while the other half stays preserved for later use. This decreases the chance of food waste, which also lowers the environmental impact.
